Biography:
He
is a painter, who went through school working in
restaurants in Massachusetts and Maine. He
evolved into a restaurateur and innkeeper who
craves time to paint.
He
considers his inns and restaurants to be life
size canvases. His current project is Cape
Arundel Inn in Kennebunkport, ME. Previous projects were White Barn Inn and Salt Marsh Tavern.
The
idea and the light intrigue him.
The palette becomes the struggle and the
means to break into the investigation, which can
be either abstracted or realistic or somewhere
in between.
Its the somewhere in-between that is
most interesting. Jack likes it best not being a
slave to the real reference point. It is when
the intuitive takes over that painting is the
most rewarding.
The canvas begins to dictate its needs
and direction and it is the artists job to pay
attention.
Living
on the coast of Maine it would be difficult for
it not to become the trigger point to his work.
